Frequently Asked Questions

How is GPA calculated?

GPA (Grade Point Average) is calculated using the following method:

  • Each letter grade is assigned a grade point value (e.g., A = 4.0, B = 3.0)
  • Multiply each course's grade points by its credit hours
  • Sum these values to get total quality points
  • Divide total quality points by total credits to get GPA

What is the grade point scale?

Our calculator uses the following grade point scale:

  • A+ = 4.3, A = 4.0, A- = 3.7
  • B+ = 3.3, B = 3.0, B- = 2.7
  • C+ = 2.3, C = 2.0, C- = 1.7
  • D+ = 1.3, D = 1.0, D- = 0.7
  • F = 0.0

How do Pass/Fail courses affect GPA?

Pass/Fail courses are handled as follows:

  • Passing grades (P) count toward total credits but not GPA
  • These credits appear in "Total Credits" but not "GPA Credits"
  • Pass grades do not affect your GPA calculation
  • Failing grades count as 0.0 in GPA calculations

What are quality points?

Quality points represent the numerical value of your grades:

  • Calculated by multiplying grade points by course credits
  • Sum of all courses' quality points
  • Used to calculate final GPA when divided by total credits
  • Helps track academic performance across different credit loads
